Stream Classification
In order to accurately identify fish habitat within proposed harvest areas and adjacent to development sites, Pacificus Biological Services Ltd. conducts stream classification activities for several major forest companies, private industry, and First Nations. Our company adheres to the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA) requirements for fish stream identification and riparian management when classifying streams.
We can also provide information of fish values present and recommend appropriate development strategies. Presence/absence fish sampling is conducted mainly using electrofishing, with several secondary methods (i.e. gee-wire minnow traps) utilized when necessary. Detailed technical reports with accompanying maps and photos are produced for each area examined.
Stream classification activities provided include:
- Preliminary fish assessment surveys
- Collection of qualitative and quantitative information
- Fish sampling (electrofishing, trapping, etc.)
- Detailed stream assessments
- Recommendations on the suitability of proposed development
